On écrit $x = \frac{P(\alpha)}{Q(\alpha)}$ pour certains $P, Q \in \mathbb Q[X]$ avec $Q \neq 0$. Soit $F$ le polynôme minimal de $x$ sur $\mathbb Q$, et notons $n$ son degré. Alors $A = Q^n \times F \circ \frac{P}{Q} \in \mathbb Q[X]$ et on a $A(\alpha) = Q^n(\alpha) \times F(x) = 0$. Puisque $\alpha$ est transcendant sur $\mathbb Q$, on en déduit que $A=0$, et comme $Q \neq 0$, $F \circ \frac{P}{Q} = 0$. Finalement, on obtient que $\frac{P}{Q}$ est une constante, car elle prend ses valeurs dans l'ensemble fini des racines de $F$, CQFD.
